Delta State Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Terry Etagherure, has said the policy thrust of his stewardship is to improve on the quality of services rendered by the State Bureau for Special Duties and its Parastatals.

These include fire fighting, rescue operations, emergency management, among others.

Etagherure, in a chat with newsmen in his office, said emphasis would be placed on measures to prevent disasters, especially fire outbreaks, through aggressive enlightenment programmes, to reduce the loss of lives and property.

He said though natural disasters like flooding and gulley erosion were beyond human control, it was important for those at risk to take precautionary measures rather than wait for disaster to catch up with them.

The Commissioner assured that response to emergency situations would be quick enough under his watch, but emphasized that issues requiring the attention of the Bureau must be promptly reported to make responses more effective.

Etagherure said the Bureau was committed to the actualization of the M.O.R.E agenda of the Oborevwori administration and would reposition all the Parastatals and units under it towards achieving set goals.

He called on the management and staff of the Bureau and its Parastatals to be prepared to give their best to the service of the state, promised to reward hard work and improve the work environment of staff.
