The Oshimili North Local Government Council has sponsored a 9-day free healthcare programme for rural dwellers in Akwukwu-Igbo and Ibusa communities

The programme, which is in conjunction with Cedio Rural Outreach Ministry, took place in Akwukwu-Igbo from the 18th through 21st of August, and started in Ibusa on the 22nd to end on the 26th of August, 2023.

Speaking on the import of the programme, the Local Government Chairman, Hon Innocent Esewezie, said it was intended to take healthcare delivery closer to the people at the grassroots.

Hon Esewezie noted that most rural dwellers either lacked the resources or hardly had time to visit hospitals for their health needs due to  strenuous farming and related activities, leaving them with the option of self medication.

This, he said, had left many with serious health issues which could have been diagnosed and treated at their early stages, pointing out that the free health programme was to afford such persons the opportunity to receive proper medical attention.

The Council Chairman thanked Cedio Rural Outreach Ministry for providing the needed technical support for the programme and urged the target beneficiaries to present themselves to the medical team in order to stay healthy.

At the Ibusa Primary Health Centre where a large number of patients were being attended to, the Chief Medical Director of Cedio Medical, Nigeria, Dr Peter Enuche, thanked the Oshimili North Local Government for its interest in the well-being of the people, especially the rural dwellers.

Dr Enuche said medical personnel were generally lacking in most hospitals to attend to the increasing health needs of the people, especially in the rural areas, describing the programme as an ample opportunity for those who had given up hope on their health conditions to receive proper diagnosis and treatment free of charge.

He said the programme had witnessed massive fibroid/tumor surgeries, caesarean sections, treatment for non surgical conditions, including malaria and typhoid, among others.

In separate interviews, some of the beneficiaries thanked the Oshimili North Council Chairman, Hon Innocent Esewezie, for his intervention in their health conditions and urged him to sustain the programme.
