Residents of Uda Layout, off St. Brigid’s road, Asaba, have appealed to the state government to come to their aid in addressing the perennial flooding in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the residents, a landlord in the area, Ogbueshi Chuka Nwabuokei, said they had been living with the problem for over fifteen years without solution, adding that property worth millions of naira had been destroyed, while access to houses in the area was extremely difficult whenever it rained.
Ogbueshi Nwabuokei blamed the flooding problem to a road constructed on Abueme street by the Direct Labour Agency (DLA) some fifteen years ago without proper drainage channels and suggested the linking of existing drains to the ones being constructed close by to connect to Ogboeke Square..
The elder statesman said landlords in the area had on several occasions carried out maintenance works to help the situation, including clearing of drains, to no avail and urged the State Ministry of Works to deploy experts to the area for proper survey and fixing of the problem.
He said the landlords had drawn the attention of the immediate past Okowa administration to the menace, in a letter, but that no action was taken and appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to urgently come to their aid.
