As part of activities to mark the Hon. Justice Chukwunweike Idigbe’s posthumous centenary birth anniversary, an E-Library/Resource Centre, built by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Asaba Branch, in collaboration with Punuka Foundation, will be commissioned on Friday, 11th August, 2023.

The project, located inside the NBA Asaba Bar Centre, High Court road off Okpanam Road, Asaba, and named after the late Jurist, will be commissioned by the Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice T. O. Diai, to be supported by other Judges of the High Court, at 9.00am.

A statement made available to newsmen by the Asaba Branch Chairman of the NBA, Mr Precious Nwadimuya, indicates that there will also be a public lecture in honour of the late Justice Idigbe, which will hold on the same day at 11:00am at the Court of Appeal Complex, off Mariam Babangida Way, Asaba, with Chief T. J. O. Okpoko, SAN and other dignitaries in attendance.

The theme of the public lecture, which will be delivered by Prof Emeka Chianu of the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State, is: The impact of Justice Idigbe on Nigerian Commercial Jurisprudence: through his judgements.

The statement adds that another Professor of Law of international repute, Poonam Puri, of Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada, will also be speaking at the event.

The late Jurist in his life time, practiced law actively in Warri, in what is now known as Delta State and was well known in the whole of Western and Eastern Nigeria before he eventually joined the Bench as a Judge of the then Western Nigerian High Court, became Chief Justice of the Midwestern region, and subsequently sat as a Justice of the Supreme Court.

According to the statement, the event is expected to host an array of participants, including Judges and other members of the Bench, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, eminent legal practitioners from Edo, Delta, Rivers, Anambra and other neighboring states, as well as interested members of the public.
