Former Senator representing Delta North senatorial district at the National Assembly, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, arrived Delta on Thursday, 20th July, after spending one year behind bars at the Ikoyi Custodial Center following his sentencing by the Court of Appeal for alleged fraud and money laundering, before he was set free by the Supreme Court on 7th July, 2023.
Nwaoboshi, who was accompanied by Senators Ede Dafinone and Joel Onowakpor of Delta Central and Delta South, touched down at the Asaba airport about 1:30pm, where he was received by a large crowd of relations, supporters and other stakeholders in the state across party lines, before proceeding tohis hometown, Ibusa.
In a brief interview with newsmen, the Senator said he was happy to reunite with his people, whom he had missed the past one year and condemned his sentencing and incarceration for offences he did not commit.
Recall that in July 2022, he was sentenced to 7 years in prison after he was illegally convicted by the Appeal Court in Lagos over charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), but the Supreme court on July 7, 2023, nullified his conviction on grounds of illegality.
