The House of Representatives has unanimously adopted a motion urging the Federal Government to urgently intervene in and respond to the perennial devastating effect of flooding in some communities in the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency.

The motion was moved at Thursday’s plenary, under Matters of Urgent Public Importance, by the member representing the Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon Nnamdi Ezechi, and seconded by Rt. Hon Fred Egbedi from Bayelsa state.

In his presentation, the Federal Lawmaker said the recurring annual flooding of many communities in his Federal Constituency had become a source of concern for his constituents, especially those living on the coastal areas.

He called for the urgent intervention and response of the relevant Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development; the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the National Commission for Refugees, Migration and Internally Displaced Persons, among others, to the devastating flood and erosion problem in the Federal Constituency.

Rt. Hon Ezechi further requested  that the House Committee on Flood and Ecological Management immediately conduct inspections in the affected communities to determine the root causes of the perennial flooding and proffer permanent solutions.

He solicited assistance, in the form of relief materials, for the millions of people who had been rendered homeless by flood and erosion in various communities in Ndokwa land, including Utagba-Ogbe, Abbi, Emu, Ibabu, Okpai, Aboh, Beneku, Utchi, Ossissa, Oworobia, Obikwele, Abala, Adia Obiaka, Azagba, among others.
