Immediate past Commissioner for Lands and Surveys in Delta state and a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oshimili North Local Government Area, Hon (Barr) Kate Onianwa, has described her former boss, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, as a leader of impeccable character.
Barr Onianwa, in a congratulatory message on behalf of her family, PDP ward 8 and the people of Oshimili North, said Okowa had remained a highly celebrated leader, and the birth anniversary was another opportunity to pay him tribute.
She noted that Okowa had made history as the first Governor of Delta state to genuinely encourage the participation of women in politics , having appointed no fewer than five women into his cabinet, with 17 women as Vice Chairmen of Local Government Councils and two others as the State Chief Judge and President, Customary Court of Appeal.
The former Commissioner said women in the state were also eternally grateful to Okowa for the widows’ alert programme and various empowerment schemes for youths, which had helped to relief most parents in the state of the burden of having to provide for their unemployed children.
Barr Onianwa appreciated Okowa for giving focused and purposeful leadership to the PDP in the state, and for performing beyond expectation to give credence to the ingenuity of the party in the governance of the state.
She congratulated the former Governor on his birth anniversary and prayed God to grant him good health and many more years of service to state and the country.
