The Oshimili North Local Government Council has constituted a three-man Peace and Reconciliation Committee to look into recent events that have threatened the traditional institution in Ibusa.
The Committee was raised at the Oshimili North Security Council meeting, presided over by the Council Chairman, Hon Innocent Esewezie, yesterday at Akwukwu-Igbo, the Local Government headquarters.
It has a former Chairman of the Local Government reputed to be knowledgeable and vast in conflict mediation and management, Dr Austin Obidi, as Chairman
The Ikwele of Ibusa, Chief Celestine Okafor will serve as a member, while the Vice President, Ibusa Youth Council, Barrister Austin Elikwu, is the Secretary.
The Committee’s Terms of Reference include to reconcile Chief Amaechi Nwaenia with the Obuzor-in-Council, resolve and reunite Chief Amaechi Nwaenia with the Diokpa of Umuodafe, brief the Otu Iyase and Otu Odogwu of government’s effort so far towards settling and maintaining traditional harmony.
The Committee is also to intercede and reintegrate Otu Iyase and Otu Odogwu with the most senior Diokpa of Ibusa, ahead of the Iwaji and Ifejioku festival celebrations which requires a united house, and is expected to submit its report to the Oshimili North Security Council in 21 days.
In his remarks, the Council Chairman, Hon Innocent Esewezie, appealed to the public to give peace a chance as his administration would not condone acts capable of causing further degeneration on the issues.
