Delta State Government has pledged continued partnership with Non Governmental Organizations committed to the management of disaster and emergency situations.

The Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon Johnson Erijo, made the pledge today while playing host to a delegation of the Delta State branch of the Red Cross Society.

Hon Erijo noted that the Red Cross Society had been in the forefront of humanitarian services, especially disaster and emergency management, pointing out that the role of the group in Internally Displaced Persons Camps, when some communities in the state were sacked by flood, was quite commendable.

He also appreciated the complementary role of the Red Cross in health education, water sanitation and hygiene, and environmental sanitation in each of the 25 Local government areas of the state.

He urged the Society to continue to make itself relevant in the management of disaster and emergency situations, as well as disease control and mobilization of voluntary blood donors in order to save lives.

The Chief of Staff sued for a more robust interface between the organisation and the relevant agencies of the Delta State Government.

Earlier in an address, the State Chairman of the organization, Chief Adolphus Anuagasi, who led the delegation, congratulated Hon Erijo on his appointment as Chief of Staff, Government House, which he said was deserving.

Chief Anuagasi acknowledged the support the organisation had enjoyed from the state government and solicited more interventions in the challenges facing the body to properly position it for more effective humanitarian services in the state.
