EZECHI INTERVENES IN BENEKU-STERLING OIL FACE OFF, URGES THE COMMUNITY TO MAINTAIN PEACE

In  a bid to restore peace and enhance development, the Member, House of Representatives for the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon Nnamdi Ezechi, has intervened in the lingering face off between the Beneku community and Sterling Oil Exploration Company.

Rt. Hon Ezechi, who held talks with the Regend of the community, High Chief Anthony Okwuagwu, Palace Chiefs, women and youth groups, urged them to give peace a chance as the feud had taken its toll on the development of area.

He said development could only thrive in a peaceful atmosphere, stressing that it was better to dialogue with the oil exploration company to get things right than to engage in a face off that would do any of the parties no good.

The House of Reps Member stated that one way the community could support the Oborevwori administration was to remain peaceful, assuring them that the state government would always intervene in crisis between oil companies and their host communities.

Rt. Hon Ezechi appealed to oil prospecting and multi national companies operating in Ndokwa land to abide by the Memoranda of Understanding with host communities and live up to their Corporate Social Responsibilities, emphasizing that local content and prompt response to oil spills must be given priority attention.

The Regend, High Chief Anthony Okwuagwu and others who spoke, praised the quick peace initiative of the Federal Lawmaker and appealed to the state government and other relevant authorities to intervene to guarantee lasting peace between the community and Sterling Oil Exploration Company.
