DELTA STATE ASSEMBLY REINSTATES OBI NZETE AS NDOKWA WEST COUNCIL CHAIRMAN, CONFIRMS APPOINTMENT OF OCHONOGOR, OTHERS INTO DESOPADEC GOVERNING BOARD

The Delta State House of Assembly has lifted the suspension of the Chairman of Ndokwa West Local Government Council, Chief Godday Obi Nzete, by the Legislative Arm of the Local Government.

This followed the consideration and adoption of the report of the House Adhoc Committee chaired by the member representing the Ika North East Constituency, Hon Anthony Elekeokwuri, which investigated the allegations against the Council Chairman.

The Adhoc Committee had in its report recommended that Nzete’s suspension be listed and that he should be reinstated with immediate effect.

It will be recalled that the State Assembly on the 4th of March, 2023, ratified the suspension of Chief Obi Nzete by the Legislative Arm of the Ndokwa West Local Government over alleged official misconduct, following which the Elekeokwuri – led Adhoc Committee was set to investigate him.

The State Assembly also at Tuesday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, screened and confirmed the Governor’s nominees for appointment as Chairman, Managing Director, Executive Directors and members of the Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC.

The development followed the respiration of the tenure of the Askia Ogieh-led Board of the interventionist agency, which necessitated the need to reconstitute the Board.

Hon John Nani was confirmed for the position of Chairman, Chief Festus Ochonogor, Managing Director; while Mr Efele Nicholas, Mr Favour Izoukomor, Hon. Taleb Tebite, and Mr Oghenekome  Okpobor got the nod of the House to be appointed as Executive Directors. 

Similarly, Chief Julius Egbedi, Mr. Sylvester Ovbije, Mr. Goru Jonathan Oghenekaro, Mr. Azuka Enebeli, Dr. Charles Olisa, Mrs Cordilia Anyangwu, Mr Sunny Ofe. Mr Victor Egboh and Mr. Spencer Okpoye were confirmed as Board members.
