The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Delta state chapter, Comrade (Chief) Francis Arhiyor, has commended the Delta State Government for prioritizing the welfare of workers through regular payment of salaries and other welfare packages.

Chief Arhiyor, while speaking to newsmen at the Cenotaph, Asaba, venue of the May Day celebration in Delta state, noted that the Okowa administration had remained committed to strengthening the state civil and public services by ensuring a cordial relationship with the workers, attributing the huge success of the state government over the past eight years to the fall out of the robust synergy.

The labour leader also commended the state’s workforce for its immense contributions that had aided the Governor in recording landmark achievements in all sectors of the economy, urging the workers to continue to engage the government on issues of improved welfare rather than resort to industrial disputes.

He said Nigerian workers, especially those in Delta, deserved to be celebrated for their roles in nation building, pointing out that members of the NURTW were, on a daily basis, involved in the movement of passengers and good to different parts of the country thereby giving the desired effect to the viability of the transport subsector in the growth of the nation’s economy.

Chief Arhiyor said factionalism of the union in Delta state had been put to rest in the interest of peace and progress and urged all members to continue to be law abiding in their operations.
