Okpanam and Amachai communities, in Oshimili North local government area of Delta state, have affirmed that the 12 acres of land called Doctors’ Village in Amachai legitimately belong to a group of doctors, under the aegis of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP).
In a joint statement made available to newsmen, the Ihunor Ike of Okpanam, Chief Dominic Anyasi and the Amachai Youth President, Mr Agala Emmanuel Onwudinjo, said the said acres of land were legally acquired by the group in 2012, adding that all the payments, including development levy, had been made.
Chief Anyansi and Mr Onwudinjo said the clarification became necessary following reports of encroachments of the Doctors’ Village by illegal occupants.
The Community leaders emphasized that land speculators and trespassers who illegally acquired land in the estate did so at their own risk, stressing that the land had been sold to the doctors, under the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners, Delta state chapter.

Reacting to the statement, the Chairman of the Doctors’ Village Amachai Land Committee, Dr. Dike Okwelum, thanked Chief Anyasi and Mr Onwudinjo for their intervention to halt further encroachment of the estate by illegal occupants.
Dr Okwelum said no fewer than three persons were currently erecting illegal structures in the estate, and thanked the community leaders for ordering the trespassers to stop further development and quit the site or face severe consequences, including legal action.
He explained that the group had no plans to sell the land, but that the members would develop the estate in accordance with a specific plan already agreed on.
