The people of Oshimili South have been told to be prepared to work individually and collectively in assuming ownership of whatever belongs to them in the overall interest of the constituency.
The member-elect of the Delta State House of Assembly, who would be representing the constituency in the next legislative session, Barr Bridget Anyafulu, made the call on Wednesday while speaking to newsmen after a stakeholders’ meeting of the Oshimili South chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Anyafulu said the electioneering campaigns threw up several issues, including the perceptions and feelings of the people about the impact of government on their lives, which would form the basis of the incoming administration’s action plan for the state.
She stated that representing the Oshimili South constituency in the State Assembly was not going to be business as usual, pointing out that she would need every Oshimili South person to be involved in the discharge of her legislative duties.
The Legislator-elect, who said all past representatives of the constituency did their best and should not be compared to one another, maintained that present day election had shown that power truly belonged to the people who, as a matter of necessity, owed it a duty to demand for accountability from their representatives.
Anyafulu said with the elections over, it was time to follow up with monitoring of those elected to be able to identify areas of need that would make governance more impactful, stressing that everyone had a role to play in making Oshimili South a better place for all.
She said PDP had nothing against those who voted or worked against the party in the just concluded elections in the state, insisting that both those in support and against the party must come forth with ideas that would add value to governance and make life more meaningful to the people.
