The Director General of the Delta PDP Campaign Council for the just concluded general election, Rt. Hon (Chief) Funkekeme Solomon, has said the party has been vindicated of insinuations that it made a wrong choice of candidate for the Gubernatorial election.
Reacting to the declaration of Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori as the winner of the election by the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Asaba on Monday, Funkekeme said there could not have been a better choice for the exalted position than Oborevwori.
He stated that the leader of the party and Governor of the state, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, consulted widely with critical stakeholders before the Governor-elect was picked to run, and wondered why some disgruntled members of the party wanted to touch who God had anointed and Deltans generally accepted to continue from where Governor Okowa would stop.
Funkekeme, who is the Senior Political Adviser to the Governor, maintained that the voting pattern in the election did not suggest that Oborevwori was not the right man to contest the Governorship election on the platform of the PDP, as his victory was overwhelming across the three senatorial districts of the state.
The Campaign Council DG congratulated the Governor-elect and his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, on their historic triumph, which he said was made possible by the purposeful leadership of the State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa and the massive support of Deltans for the Okowa administration and the ruling party.
He assured the people of the state that they would not regret the mandate given to Sheriff Oborevwori and his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, affirming that the Governor-elect remained an epitome of humility, transparency selflessness, equity, fairness and justice, having presided over the affairs of the State Assembly for six years without blemish.
