The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the Udu Constituency House of Assembly election, Chief Jite Brown, on Monday allegedly led an attack on the incumbent member representing the Constituency in the State Assembly, Hon (Chief) Peter Uviejitobor.

The attack, which took place at the Asaba official residence of the Governor-elect and Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, followed the alleged refusal of the sitting member, who is also a member of the PDP, to work for the party’s candidate in the election, Chief Jite Brown, which led to his loss to the APC candidate.

Chief Jite Brown, who is the current Chairman of Udu Local Government of Delta state, was said to have perpetrated the act with one Elvis Kporoh and two others.

Reacting to the attack, Hon Uviejitobor, who was at the Speaker’s residence with his colleagues to rejoice with Governor-elect over his victory in last Saturday’s Governorship election, described the development as sad and embarrassing to the entire Delta State Legislature.

He said he would not make any further comment on the issue because he was expecting the State Assembly to take a stance on it as it happened at the residence of the Speaker and in the presence of his colleagues.

A concerned politician in Udu, Mr Onajite Temu, who witnessed the attack, condemned the incident, describing it as barbaric.

When contacted, Chief Brown, who confirmed the attack, said the issues that led to it started at the collation centre, where some youths suspected that Uviejitobor worked for APC against his party.

He stated that the youths took advantage of the Speaker’s victory party to vent their anger on the Lawmaker, but that though he was present, he could not do anything about it because he was not happy about his loss.
