Apex Ijaw socio-cultural organization, the Ijaw National Congress (INC) says it has not endorsed any Presidential candidate for the February 25 election.
The Publicity Secretary of the body, Engr Ezonebi Oyakemeagbegha, stated this while refuting a misleading media report purporting that the organization had endorsed the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, with whom it had an interactive engagement on Thursday.
Engr Ezonebi said three of the 18 Presidential candidates, Prince Adewale Adebanjo of the SDP;, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku of the PDP and Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, had interacted with the INC during which they presented their manifestos to the group, pointing out that all the 18 candidates would be entertained after which the organization would take a stance on its preferred candidate based on their manifestos.
The INC Publicity Secretary explained that the group’s interface with the Presidential candidates was to ascertain who among them would better serve the interest of the Ijaw nation, the Niger Delta region, and the country at large.
He stated that the media report was false, malicious and a figment of the imagination of those behind them and urged the public to discountenance the stories in their entirety.
