Leaders, elders and members of the Oshimili South LGA chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Saturday gathered in solidarity with the party’s candidate for the Delta State House of Assembly election, Barr Bridget Anyafulu, at the commissioning of her campaign office in Asaba.
It was like a family reunion, as the stakeholders, including those who had left the mainstream of the party after the Governorship primary election, unanimously agreed to work together to deliver Anyafulu and all other candidates of the party in the forthcoming elections.
The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and PDP candidate for the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency election, Rt. Hon Ndudi Elumelu, who commissioned the campaign office, thanked party faithful in Oshimili South for their unity of purpose, which was evident in the large turn out at the recent presidential campaign rally in Asaba.
Elumelu also noted that Oshimili South PDP had an impressive showing at the inauguration of some key projects in Asaba by the Presidential candidate of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, through adequate coordination and mobilization, saying that it could not have been otherwise considering the attention given to the development of the state capital by the State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa.
While urging the people to vote for Atiku/Okowa because of the benefits their victory would bring to the state, the Minority Leader said he was proud of Anyafulu and confident that she would make a good representative of the Oshimili South Constituency in the State Assembly if given the mandate.
In their separate remarks, party leaders in the area, including a former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Peter Onwusanya; former State Chairman of PDP, Chief Edwin Uzor; Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Darlington Ijeh; Chairman, Oshimili South Local Government, Hon Kelvin Ezenyili; former member, Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Ogbueshi Ejiofor Onyia and State Woman Leader of the party, harped on the need for all to sink their differences to enable the party win the elections with a comfortable margin of votes.
The Oshimili South Constituency House of Assembly candidate, Barr Bridget Anyafulu, said the campaign office would serve as a rallying point for more campaign activities in the LGA, including unit to unit campaigns to further mobilize support for candidates of the party.
Anyafulu disclosed that a training programme would soon be organized for party agents in the area to keep them abreast of the new electoral guidelines, with a view to ensuring a seamless process during the polls.
She told the gathering that all those who contested the primary election with her had put the outcome of the exercise behind them and were now working with the party to secure victory for her and other candidates.
The House of Assembly hopeful thanked Oshimili South party leaders, elders, women and youths for their support so far and urged them not to relent until victory was achieved in the polls.
Earlier, the LGA PDP Chairman, Ogbueshi Dada Okonji, stressed the need for love and unity among party faithful, so as to forge a common front that would lead the party to resounding victory.
Dada Okonji said though victory for PDP in Oshimili South was sure, the party would want to have it big so that the LGA could record the highest number of votes in the state.
