With less than two months to the 2023 general election, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ward 7, Akumazi, in Ika North East local government area, has recorded an increase in membership with the defection of over one hundred members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to its fold.

This happened at the weekend at an enlarged meeting of the ward, which was also attended by party faithful from Ekwuoma and Owerre Olubo, during which 276 persons were empowered.

Speaking on the occasion, the leader of the ward and State Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, attributed the recent inflows of members of the opposition parties to PDP in the state to the good works of the State Governor and Vice Presidential candidate of the party, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, who is the leader of the party.

Aniagwu said the Okowa administration had brought development to Akumazi by tarring some roads in the community, including the Obi palace road, while some Indigenes of the kingdom had been appointed to various political offices.

The ward leader said the only way to attract more development and empowerment to Akumazi was to increase support for the party and urged faithful to vote massively for Atiku and Okowa, Sheriff and Onyeme, Ned Nwoko, Victor Nwokolo and Marilyn in the February and March national and state elections.

The Information Commissioner thanked the defectors for realizing that APC was a death party in Akumazi, assuring them that they made the right decision to dump the party, which had added no value to their lives.

The Ika North East Chairman of PDP, Chukwudi Agbomah, who received the defectors, told them that the party was accommodating to both old and new members and would not discriminate against them in the scheme of things.

Agbomah congratulated those empowered, while assuring those not listed that it would get to their turn, and called on all eligible voters in the area to ensure they collected their Permanent Voter’s Cards to be able to vote for PDP in the elections.

Mr Ikechukwu Ogoh, who spoke on behalf of the defectors, described the time spent in APC as wasted and thanked the ward and LGA party Chairmen for accepting them in PDP, with a promise that they would be loyal to and work for the party in the coming election
