The Nigerian Police Force has explained why Assistant Superintendent of Police, (ASP) Drambi Vandi, who reportedly shot and killed a pregnant Nigerian Lawyer, Mrs Omobolanle Raheem, on Christmas day in Lagos cannot be summarily dismissed from the Force

The Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Lagos Command, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said as a senior police officer, Vandi could not be dismissed by a wave of the hand, explaining that the Police Service Commission needed to furnish the Force with certain important documents before his dismissal could be effected

“Following the sad incident on Sunday, 25th of December 2022, many Nigerians have been calling for justice to be served in the case and that is exactly what the Police have promised the families of the deceased.

“However, some people still feel that the Nigerian Police is taking the case lightly by delaying the dismissal and prosecution of the Police officer.

In his words, the Police PRO wrote: “The culprit is an ASP. We need some documents to write to the PSC for his suspension. He is not a rank and file that can be summarily dismissed. I have made this known.

“I think we need to understand this. He has been detained. For further legal procedure, he must be suspended first. So, don’t allow your emotions to overshadow your objectivism of this sensitive case”.
