Hundreds of women, under the auspices of Nwabogo Women 4 Good Governance, on Saturday in Asaba, embarked on a solidarity march in support of the Delta Deputy Governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Prof Nwabogo Umukoro.

The women, who came from different parts of the state, marched through Government House road chanting solidarity songs in affirmation of Nwabogo Umukoro as Delta Women’s choice for the Deputy Governorship seat.

They said the emergence of Labour Party in the political space was set to revolutionize elections in the country, adding that Deacon Ken Pella’s choice of a woman as Governorship running mate was the best thing that had happened to Delta politics.

Receiving the women at the Labour Party’s campaign office in Asaba, the Deputy Governorship candidate thanked them for joining the moving train, which would take them to the seat of power at Government House, Asaba, come 2023.

Prof Nwabogo Umukoro stated that it was a height of gender inequality not to have had a woman as Deputy Governor of Delta state since the inception of the current unbroken democracy in 1999, stressing that the Labour Party in Delta was set to change the narrative, with her as the State Deputy Governorship candidate.

She promised that the Labour Party government would be anchored in quality representation, accountability, transparency and equality, pointing out that Delta women should expect a better deal under her watch as Deputy Governor if given the mandate.

The Deputy Governorship candidate praised the PDP government of Delta state for the much it had done for the people, but emphasized that a lot still needed to be done in all sectors, which the Labour Party would focus on beyond 2023 if given the opportunity.

Prof Umukoro, therefore, appealed to Deltans, particularly the youth, to sustain the current massive support for the Labour Party and follow it up with the delivery of the party’s candidates in the forthcoming elections.

The Delta State Chairman of the Labour Party, Chief Tony Ezeagwu, witnessed the solidarity march.
