The support of Celestine Omehia for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, who has been in a rift with Governor Nyesom Wike, may have cost him recognition as a former Governor of Rivers State by the House of Assembly.
At Thursday’s plenary, the House passed a motion ordering Omehia to refund a whooping sum of N600m, being the monetary entitlements he received as Governor, within seven days, in addition to about N96.5m he received as pension.
According to the motion, he has cease to be addressed as His Excellency.
Omehia was Rivers State Governor for six months before he was removed in 2007 by the Supreme Court, which ordered the swearing – in of Rotimi Amaechi as Governor.
However, in 2015, Omehia was recognized as former Governor by Nyesom Wike after his swearing – in.
He has fallen out with Wike over his support for Atiku Abubakar.
