As the authorities of the Oshimili North and Aniocha South local governments spearhead efforts to resolve the age-long boundary dispute between Ibusa and Ogwashi-Uku communities, the state government has been commended for its interest in the reign of peace in the disputed areas to avoid the face off snowballing to a full blown clash.

The Chairman of Oshimili North Local Governnent, Hon Innocent Esewezie, made the call on Wednesday after the third day of visiting the various points on the boundaries with his Aniocha South counterpart, Pastor Jude Chukwunwike, Surveyors from the Office of the State Surveyor General and representatives of both communities.

Esewezie said the Councils were committed to the resolution of the dispute and had devoted time and resources to the cause, pointing out that the current efforts were paying off as both communities had fully cooperated without any threat to peace and security.

He, however, observed that a lot of distortion had taken place in the boundaries over time, making the outcomes of court processes on the matter unrealistic, particularly as most of the landmarks that existed in the past could no longer be found.

The Oshimili North Council boss stated that in the present circumstance, only mutual understanding and the willingness of both sides to make sacrifices were the only available options for peace and harmony in the dispute and commended the state government for its intervention so far.

Esewezie said he and his Aniocha South Local Governnent helmsman had done their best to forestall a breakdown of law and order, as Chief Security Officers of the affected Council Areas, adding that the state government’s support had helped to douse tension in the affected areas.

Visit to landmarks and points in the disputed areas continues.
