The leadership of the apex sociocultural organisation of the Ijaw nation, the Ijaw National Congress (INC) and its sister youth group, the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) have reiterated their resolve to diligently pursue the 2023 Delta Ijaw governorship project to its logical conclusion.

The was the position taken by the leadership of the two groups on Sunday when they and other critical stakeholders met with Delta governorship aspirants of Ijaw extraction at the Royal Palace in Patani.

INC President, Professor Benjamin Okaba, in his address, said the Ijaws were committed to actualizing the 2023 Delta Ijaw governorship project, and would not compromise it for any reason, pointing out that
the group would continue to give the needed support to all sons in the Delta governorship race.

He insisted that it was the turn of the Ijaws to produce the next Governor of the state and called on all Ijaws in the state to channel their energies and the required strength to the Ijaw governorship project.

Okaba berated some unpatriotic elements who were openly working against the interest of the Ijaw nation and issuing unguarded statements in the name of the Ijaws in the state.

The INC helmsman advised the aspirants to consider coming out with a sole candidate, hinting that the Ijaws would think in that direction at the appropriate time.

On their part, the aspirants commended the INC, IYC and other groups for the high level of support being given to them.

They assured that their ambition was to improve on the developmental strides of the incumbent Governor, Senator (Dr.) Infanyi Okowa and for the good of the state and the Ijaws, even as they vowed to remain committed to the cause till the end.

The aspirants expressed confidence in their capacity and strength to pursue their ambitions to a logical conclusion, stressing that with God on their side, an Ijaw Governor would emerge in Delta come 2023.

They solicited the continued support of all Ijaws in the state in making the governorship project a reality.

The meeting, which was presided over by the INC President, Prof Benjamin Okaba, was attended by Senator James Manager and Hon. (Dr) Braduce Angozi, both of whom are governorship aspirants.

Others are Hon Oboro Preyor, Barr. Newword Safugha, INC Publicity Secretary, Engr Ezonebi Oyakemeagbegha, the group’s Western Zone Secretary, Barr. Sam Ikporikpo, IYC Parliament Speaker, Bob Collins Igetei, the youth group’s Woman Leader, Tina Tobusi, Western Zone Chairman, Dr Doubra Collins Okotete, among others.
