APC SUFFERS MAJOR SET BACK IN OSHIMILI NORTH, LOSES 3 WARD CHAIRMEN, OTHERS TO PDP

There has been a major crack in the Oshimili North chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) with the defection of some leaders of the party to the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

They are the Ward 4 Chairman of the party, Elder Nkemjika Onwuegbuzie; the Ward Secretary, Pastor Godday Imonife; Ward 5 Chairman, Madam Ngozi Megwai; Ward 8 Chairman, Hon. Sunday Oligbo; Ward 8 Treasurer, Chief Paul Okafor; a former Councilor, Hon. Sunday Okonkwo; Comrade Azubuike Ikem, among others.

Receiving the decampees at a rally in Ibusa on Thursday, the Chairman, PDP Ward 5, Chief Emmanuel Nwanze, commended them for their courage to return to where they truly belonged and urged them to demonstrate the sense of responsibility towards further strengthening the ruling party in Oshimili North.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of Oshimili North Local Governnent, Hon. Innocent Esewezie, said there was no alternative to PDP in the Local Governnent Area and indeed the state, and urged the returnees, who were originally members of PDP, to put the experiences of the past behind them as the party had been rebuilt for greater benefits of members.

Esewezie stated that the party’s embrella was large enough to accommodate both old and new members, assuring the defectors that they would not in be discriminated against.

The Local Govermnent Chairman explained that the leader of the party in the state, who is also the Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, had given the party a clear direction, with unprecedented delivery of dividends of democracy across the state.

He urged party faithful to remain united and resolute to the prosecution of the 2023 election, which he said was a must win for PDP given the dominance of the party in Oshimili North and the state in general.

Others who spoke, including a former State Youth Leader of PDP, Mr. Anene Chigbue, Hon. Austin Okonji, Hon. Tina Nwaokocha, and Elder Austin Odogwu, congratulated the defectors for their wise decision, promising to work closely with them to achieve set goals.

Responding on behalf of the decampees, Comrade Azubuike Ikem, Hon. Sunday Okonkwo, Madam Ngozi Megwai and Chief Sunday Oligbo, said they were happy to be back to their political family after a tortuous stint in APC and pledged their loyalty.
