Deltans, especially those who witnessed the creation of the state in 1991, have been told to thank God for being alive to witness the 30th anniversary.
The pioneer Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon (Chief) Aneke Ifemeni, who made the call in a statement, said the greatest thing to celebrate was the gift of life and not just the creation of the state.
Ifemeni, a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Agricultural Matters, noted that the need to thank God for the gift of life could only be appreciated on realization of the fact that not all who saw the beginning of the state lived to witness the 30th anniversary.
On development of the state over the years, the former Lawmaker recalled that Asaba was a city of one major road, with all governnent offices, including Governnent House and the State Assembly, on rented apartments.
All that, he said, had become history as the state capital could now be rated among the fastest growing cities in the country, with development spilling over to neighbouring towns of Okpanam, Ibusa and Issele – Azagba, while other towns, including Warri, Effurun, Ughelli, Agbor and Sapele had largely become urban centres.
The SSA thanked the then Military President, Ibrahim Babangida, for giving Deltans a state of their own and commended all past Administrators and Governors, as well as the incumbent Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for their developmental strides which had brought the state this far.
