Stakeholders in the basic education sub sector in Delta State have been charged to work as a team to improve standards of primary education.
The Commissioner for Primary Education, Hon Chika Ossai, gave the charge when a delegation of the state chapter of the National Association of Local Government Education Secretaries of Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit.
Chika Ossai said the concern of all stakeholders should be how to improve teaching and learning in primary schools across the state, particularly with the creation of the Ministry of Primary Education, stressing that the development came with additional responsibilities for them.
He called for a closer working relationship between Education Secretaries and Chief Inspectors of Education, insisting that they must synergize to make the education system work effectively.
The Commissioner warned against unnecessary bureaucratic bottlenecks in the system, urging the Education Secretaries to give free hands to monitoring and supervisory officials to operate seamlessly.
Chika Ossai told his guests that the Ministry of Primary Education has come to stay and pledged his support for the association.
The State Chairman of the association, Comrade Alexander Osademe, congratulated the Commissioner on his well deserved appointment and urged him to strengthen the Local Education Authorities in the state to make them more relevant to the system.
Osademe called for the full implementation of the Universal Basic Education programme as spelt out by the enabling law and for a deserving facelift to the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
