The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward four, Onicha – Olona, in Aniocha North Local Governnent Area, Mr. Jerome Azike, the Secretary, Mr. Joseph Onyeagbazi and scores of APC faithful in the ward, on Wednesday severed ties with the opposition party.
The defection, which was facilitated by a PDP leader in Onicha – Olona and Executive Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board, Hon. Bazim Chinye, was witnessed by PDP loyalists from across Aniocha North Council Area.
Hon. Chinye thanked the defectors for their courage to dump their former party, which had served Nigerians bad leadership, inflecting pains and anguish on the people after promising to change things for the better in the country.
He said the broom symbol of the APC represented poverty and penury, explaining why the party was bereft of ideas that would positively impact on the lives of the people, while the umbrella symbol of the PDP represented the spirit of accommodation and protection from the vagaries of the weather.
The party leader acquainted the defectors with the development strides of the PDP governnent of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, stressing that the Governor had religiously implemented his electioneering campaign promises to the people with the sole aim of achieving a Stronger Delta.
Hon Chinye assured the new entrants to the party that they would be treated as other members of the PDP and urged them to work hard towards further strengthening the party in the ward.
Others who welcomed the decampees to the PDP family were a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Engr. Austin Modungwo; Vice Chairman of the Aniocha North Council, Mrs Tina Amuamuzia; Chief Austin Elumelu; Hon (Mrs) Maria Nkeweshe and Chief A. A. Ojei.
They called on others yet to dump the APC in the area to do so to be able to savour the goodness of the Okowa administration on the platform of the PDP.
The ward Chairman of the party, Ogbuenyi Okoye Aninye, who formerly received the decampees, congratulated them on their wise decision.
Addressing the former APC members, the Aniocha North LGA Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Charles Ochei, assured them that they would not regret their action as the party was known for equity and fairness to all its members, old and new.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of a PDP membership card to the former APC ward Chairman, Mr. Jerome Azike, by Ogbuenyi Aninye, while the LGA Chairman, Dr. Ochei, presented him and others with the party’s umbrellas.
Responding on behalf of the defectors, Azike and Onyeagbazi said things had fallen apart in APC and the center could no longer hold, leading to the loss of direction by the party at all levels.
They commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for giving purposeful leadership to the PDP in Delta and for the giant strides of his administration, just as they hailed Hon. Chinye for relating well with every Onicha – Olona person, irrespective of party affiliation, which encouraged them to join the PDP.
