The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria has decried the spate of insecurity in the country.

The Conference, made up of Speakers of the 36 State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, expressed its feeling in a communique issued at the end of its second quarter meeting of the year held in Asaba, the Delta State capital and signed by its Chairman, Hon Abubakar Suleiman.

The Speakers, however, commended the efforts of the federal government at addressing the nation’s security challenges, and called on stakeholders to use the opportunity of the Constitution amendment to accommodate community policing and state police in the country to effectively tackle the problem of insecurity.

They commended Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon (Chief) Sheriff Oborevwori for hosting the meeting to discuss a wide range of issues affecting the nation;

The Conference also commended the Governors that have commenced the implementation of the financial autonomy in their states, while urging the other State Governors to follow suite as agreed in the Memorandum of Action signed by all the stakeholders.

It called on all the State Houses of Assembly to pass Funds Management Bill for Assent of the Governors within the Fourty-Five (45) days window allowed by stakeholders.
