The Forum of Branch Chairmen of the Nigerian Bar Associatiion, NBA, in Delta State has faulted the setting up of Committees for the implementation of the Delta State Judiciary Funds Management Law, 2019, by the State Chief Judge, Justice Marshall Umukoro, without recourse to its leadership and the legal community in the state.
The Forum, in a statement signed by its Chairman and Chairman of Warri branch, Chief Emmanuel Uti and the Chairmen of Asaba, Agbor, Ogwashi – Uku, Oleh, Ughelli, Sapele, Effurun and Udu branches, said it would have been better to carry the members along considering the weighty issues that led to the JUSUN strike.
It added that being involved in the process would enable the body to brief its members on efforts being made to address the issues at stake, as well as prepare a proper report to be transmitted to the National body of the NBA.
The Forum insisted that in view of the deplorable condition of many judiciary facilities across Delta state, it needed to know when full payment of all internally generated revenue by the judiciary back to the judiciary would commence and the modalities for computing the figures.
The NBA Branch Chairmen urged the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, to urgently address the issues with the various branches of the Association in the state and reaffirmed its solidarity with JUSUN and PASAN on the issue of financial autonomy.
The Forum enjoined members of the various state chapters of the NBA to keep faith in the struggle and eschew divide and conquer tactics that would do the Associatiion no good.
