DELTA BORN MONU – OLAREWAJU BECOMES NATIONAL PRESIDENT OF TRADERS, MARKET LEADERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA

    A former member of the Delta State House of Assembly and one time Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in the state, Honourable (Barr) Chinwe Monu – Olarewaju,  has made history as the first National President of the Association of Traders and Market Leaders of Nigeria (ATMALC) produced by the south south geo – political zone of the country.

    Olarewaju, who is the third National President of the association in its 21 years history, was inaugurated at a colourful ceremony in Asaba on Wednesday, January 20, by the National Secretary of the body, Alhaji Idowu Alonge.

    Alhaji Alonge described Honourable Olarewaju as an amiable woman with the capacity to lead the association to greater heights in Nigeria and beyond, adding that her appointment, which was on merit, would be for as long as she lived.

    He said the association was founded to foster unity, love, harmony, peace and justice among traders and market leaders across the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, and urged the new National President to brace up to the enormous task ahead with the determination to succeed.

    ATMALC National Secretary listed the association’s functions to include educating traders and market leaders throughout the country on government policies and programmes, empowerment and exposure of the traders to opportunities that would enhance their trades within and outside the country.

    Alhaji Alonge commended Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for his commitment to ensuring peace and security in the state and urged him not to relent.

    In her acceptance speech, ATMALC National President, Honourable (Barr) Chinwe Monu – Olarewaju, thanked all traders and market leaders in the country for the confidence reposed in her, promising to deliver on the mandate of the association.

    Olarewaju, accompanied by Alhaji Alonge and other National and State leaders of the association, later proceeded to the palace of the Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof) Chike Edozien, for introductiion and royal blessing.

    The Asagba described the choice of Olarewaju to lead the Traders and Market Leaders Associatiion as an honour to Asaba, her home town, and the state, assuring that the communty would support her to succeed.

    In a brief remark, Olarewaju  promised to remain a good ambassador of the state and to impact positively on members of the association, particularly those at the grassroots.

    Highlights of the occasion were the decoration of the new National President and presentation of a certificate of authority, a copy of the rules guiding the association and the group’s certificate of incorporation to her.

    The event was attended by two former Speakers of the State House of Assembly, Honourables Emmanuel Okoro and Franc Enekorogha, Honourable Dennis Omovie, the Onoi of Asaba, Ogbueshi Uche Nwajei, Omu Anioma, Martha Dunkwu, Omu of Obior kingdom, Onyebuchibe Okonkwo, Delta State President of the association, Mrs Doris Efeturi, her Kogi State counterpart, Chief Caroline Adeboye and Ondo 1st Vice –  President, Mrs Iwaloye Funmilayo, among others.
