OKOWA UNVEILS IBUSA YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (IYDP)

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has pledged support for any privately iniitiated programme tailored along the vision of his administration.

He made the pledge on Monday while unveiling the Ibusa Youth Development Programme, (IYDP), an initiative of his Executive Assistant on Communty Development, Honourable Innocent Esewezie.

The Governor, who was represented by his Senior Political Adviser, Honourable Funkekeme Solomon, said IYDP was a veritable platform for Ibusa youths to secure their future, particularly at this time of joblessness and urged the Ibusa communty to take advantage of the laudable programme.

Okowa commended the initiator of the programme, Honourable Innocent Esewezie, for thinking outside the box towards life after the  COVID – 19 era, stressing that the youths of Ibusa would be better for it.

In his remark, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Ifeanyi Egwunyenga, described the programme as well thought out, with clear objectives of equipping Ibusa youths with the skills and capacities for the challenges of life ahead of them.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary, Delta State Technical and Vocational Education Board, Mr. Smart Ikem, described the programme as a bold step towards encouraging skills acquisition, in tandem with the mandate of the Board, adding that it was the first of its kind in Ibusa.

Adding his royal voice, the Obuzor of Ibusa, Obi (Prof) Louis Nwaoboshi, recalled that he saw the inspiration in the new generation of Ibusa youths while recently inaugurating the executive of the Ibusa Youth Council, saying that the Youth Development Programme was a good response to his charge for positive thoughts on the way forward for the community.

He commended Honourable Esewezie for the initiative, describing him as a worthy ambassador of the Ibusa communty.

In a lecture entitled: Harnessing the Potentials of Ibusa Youth for the Post COVID – 19 World, Dr. Godwin Edozie, urged Ibusa youths to key into the programme, which he said was a rare opportunity that should not be taken for granted.

The initiator of IYDP and Executive Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development, Honourable Innocent Esewezie, said the programme was a community based approach to addressing youth capacity building challenges, restiveness and unemployment,

Honourable Esewezie said already 30 trainees had been enrolled in the State Vocational Training Centre for various skill acquisition programmes, and solicited the support of good spirited individuals, community stakeholders and organisations.

For his part, the President – General of the Ibusa Youth Council, Comrade Ifeanyi Asiodu, thanked Honourable Esewezie for floating the programme aimed at gainfully engaging the youths and assured him that the youths would take full advantage of the opportunity provided by the programme.

The highlights of the events were the unveiling of the IYDP, the induction of the 30 trainees and the voluntary sponsorship of 44 more trainees.
