Self installed traditional ruler of Kerebiri Mein kingdom, in Bomadi local government area of Delta state Godspower Tam Oporomo, has been arraigned before an Asaba Magistrate’s Court on a six count charge, including impersonation, disobedience to law, illegal installation as traditional ruler and engaging in acts likely to cause a breach of public peace.

The defendant was said to have installed himself the traditional ruler of Kerebiri Mein kingdom on September 3, 2016, at Bomadi, in Bomadi Magisterial District, in contravention of the Traditional Rulers Council and Chiefs Law, cap T2 Law of Delta State 2020, punishable under section 202 of the Criminal Code Law, cap C21, Vol 1 Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.

In count (6), Godspower Tam Oporomo was accused of parading himself as the king of Kerebiri Mein kingdom, when he is not, thereby committing an offence punishable under section 26 of the Traditional Rulers Council and Chiefs Law, cap T2 Law of Delta State, 2008.

When the charges were read in court, the defendant pleaded not guilty, after which his counsel made an oral application for bail, which was not objected to by the legal team of the complainant, the State Commissioner of Police, led by Thompson Okpoko (SAN).

Ruling on the bail application, the trial Magistrate, Maurice Okwuasaba, said it was a bailable offence and accordingly admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N250,000, with two sureties who must be resident in the Asaba Magisterial District.

The case was thereafter adjourned to September 14 for further hearing.
