Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has paid tribute to the retired Primate of All Nigeria, Anglican Communion, the Most Reverend Nicholas Okoh, for his fight against same-sex marriage.
The Governor gave the commendation n Saturday at the retirement Thanksgiving Service in honour of the former Primate Nicholas Okoh, which held at the St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Owa-Alero, in Ika north east local government area.
Governor Okowa said the retired Primate stood for the truth and deserved all the accolades for not succumbing to global pressures on issues at variance with biblical injunctions.
He said since 2010 when Nicholas Okoh was instanlled Primate, he had represented Christ in all his dealings, especially upholding the doctrine of the Church and the commandments of God.
The Governor recalled that while he was in the Senate, the Anti-gay Marriage Bill was passed despite all manner of pressures from different parts of the world, stressing that the Bill was one of the things that jeopardized the re-election of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He described the former primate as a role model, a true soldier of Christ and a builder in the body of Christ.
In his sermon, the new Primate of All Nigeria, Anglican Communion, the Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, called on Nigerians to put their trust in God and seek divine intervention in solving the challenges bedevilling the nation.
He said God was willing to restore the nation’s glory if the people could chose serving God in truth and in spirit rather than indulge in acts capable of incurring the wrath of God.
He lauded the Most Reverend Okoh for the feat he recorded as Primate and promised to build on his legacies.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman Delta State Traditional Rulers Council and Obi of Owa, Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor II, and retired Justice Sylvester Ehiwario, said Owa people were lucky to have a son as Primate and commended the Most Reverend Okoh for being a blessing to the body of Christ and humanity at large.
They urged him to continue to be a mighty instrument in God’s vineyard even in retirement.
The celebrant, the Most Reverend Nicholas Okoh, said he was not just thanking God because he was retiring from the Church active service, but for seeing him through the vicissitudes of life.
He thanked Governor Okowa and others that stood by him while in office and pledged to rededicate his life to the service of God and humanity.
