Nollywood veteran actor, Chiwetalu Agu, has urged the Delta State Government to invest in the Nollywood industry in appreciation for the immense contribution of the industry to the development of the state.
The legendary actor made the call on Thursday at a movie shooting location in Ibusa, while addressing the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Lawrence Ejiofor, when he visited the Umuogwo Umuekea Ezemese Camp.
Chiwetalu Agu said movie producers and actors had virtually abandoned other cities across the country for Asaba as their preferred destination, contributing to the socio – economic growth of the capital city.
He said the state government needed to encourage the industry operators to stay and ply their trade in the state by providing a conducive environment for them to excel, adding that not doing so might make some of them seek better options elsewhere.
The veteran, however, commended the Okowa administration for building a Film Village, and urged government to ensure that the facility had everything in place to serve the needs of the movie industry.
He regretted that the older generation of actors was fast depleting due to age, ill health and death, and urged the up coming ones to work hard to keep the industry going.
