Youths of Ndokwa east local government area of Delta State, under the auspices of Ndokwa East Youth Assocation (NEYA) have decried the seeming neglect of Ndokwa East Local Government Area in the allocation of NDDC projects.
The association, in a letter to the Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, signed by its President General, Comrade Linus Osaji, said the situation was not acceptable, given the contributions of the Council Area to the nation’s oil economy.
It noted that there was no tangible NDDC project in Ndokwa east, while those awarded had yet to be executed and requested for a dialogue with the Senate Committee to discuss the way forward.
NEYA said it would like to know the projects allocated to the area, the contractors awarded the jobs, the present state of the projects, the relevance of such projects to the people, among others.
The youth body urged the Senate Committee to take their request seriously in order to address the issue, insisting that Ndokwa east deserved a better deal from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in view of the degradation the area had suffered due to oil exploration.
It maintained that Ndokwa east could not continue to suffer neglect when other parts of the country were being developed with resources from the area, stressing that the Council Area needed a sense of belonging from the NDDC.
