Delta State Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has reaffirmed that the strength of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains in consensus building and peaceful resolution of issues and has called for sustenance of the virtues to guarantee the successes of the party in elections, especially in Delta.
Okowa, who stated this on Saturday in Asaba at the Delta State Congress of the party, urged faithful not to be distracted by the antics of the opposition in the state.
He thanked Deltans who prayed for him and his family when they were hit by the Coronavirus, and expressed delight thathis administration was doing well in infrastructure, education, healthcare and job creation, while Delta had also been rated high across the country and beyond in human development index.
Okowa thanked God for a peaceful Congress at the state, ward and local government levels, saying that Deltans had shown that they were organized people and proud of the successes recorded so far.
The Governor said since the formation of the party, consensus building had always been its strength and thanked God that collectively in the various local government areas members all agreed and elected a 39-member State Executive of the state.
He urged politicians to exercise caution ahead of 2023, saying “we were elected to serve and provide dividends of democracy for the people and there is a lot of time ahead of us”.
Okowa commended the immediate past State Executive Committee of the party for a job well done.
At the Congress, all members of the dissolved State Executive Committee of the party headed by Chief Kingsley Esiso were re – elected without opposition.
The Cingress, which was attended by 2,803 delegates, including the Governor and his Deputy, Mr Kingsley Otuaro, was conducted by a team of PDP officials from the party’s Headquarters in Abuja, led by Dr Lawrence Ezenwa and supervised by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Mr .Val Arenyinka was re – elected as Deputy Chairman of the party, while Mr Moses Iduh, was re – elected Vice Chairman, Delta North; Dr Patrick Fovie, Vice Chairman, Delta Central and Chief Julius Takeme, Vice Chairman, Delta South Senatorial District.
Chief Godday Obi-Nzete is State Secretary; Deinghan Macaulay, Treasurer; Collins Bello, Financial Secretary; Dr. Michael Osuoza, Publicity Secretary; Chief Sunday Onoriode, Organizing Secretary; Bernard Odior, Legal Adviser; Lady Kawulia Omoko; Woman Leader; Mr Bino Obowomano, Youth Leader and Chief Owen Erirhomuru, Auditor.
In his acceptance speech, Esiso thanked party faithful for their confidence in the ability of the State Executive Committee to take the party to greater heights, assuring that the party would continue to support the Stronger Delta vision of the Okowa administration.
He appealed to members with 2023 political ambition to exercise restraint as the Governor was still on duty, promising that the party would continue its winning streak in the state.
Before the dissolution of the State Exco, Esiso had, while welcoming the delegates, said the party extended the tenure of the State Executive by three months because of COVID-19 pandemic.
He said the role of any political party was to ensure democratic governance anchored on free and fair elections, adding that the State Executive had worked diligently to deliver party candidates in virtually all the elections the party participated in.
Chairman of the Congress panel, Dr Lawrence Ezenwa, said the exercise was peaceful and congratulated PDP in Delta for a hitch free Congress.
