The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it may suspend the forthcoming Edo and Ondo governorship elections if there is a breakdown of law and order.

INEC’s National Commissioner, Festus Okoye, who disclosed this in a meeting held with stakeholders in Abuja, said a number of issues and election preparations were discussed, including security for the elections, insisting that if there was breakdown of law and order, the elections might be suspended.

He expressed concerns over the violent actions such as destruction of opponents’ campaign materials, billboards, use of violent words and violent campaigns in Edo state.

Okoye, however, reassured that the electoral body would not relent in ensuring that election rules were enforced.
