DADA OKONJI HONOURED FOR HIS OPEN – MINDEDNESS AND ACCESSIBILITY

The absence of a strong political pressure group in Oshimili south local government area of Delta State has been attributed to self-serving interest of some politicians in the area.

The local government area’s Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ogbueshi Okonji, made the submission when he received an award from the Oshimili South Progressive Front (OSPF) led by former Chairman of the local government, Honourable Izuka Okolo.

The honour tagged “Exemplary Leadership Award”, was bestowed on the party Chairman for his open-mindedness and accessibility”.

Receiving the award, Ogbueshi Okonji noted that most of the groups that came up in the past were organised for a purpose and disappeared after the objective was either realized or lost, adding that his leadership of the Oshimili South PDP under his watch would encourage groups of likeminds to promote the Okowa administration and the PDP in the area and beyond.

He charged the Oshimili South Progressive Front (OSPF) to support the PDP always in order to reap the benefits inherent in working with his administration, reminding the group of the need to be loyal to the party at all times despite challenges that might be faced at intervals, as there were bound to occur and be surmounted.

While assuring that the party would recognize the OSPF and work with it to achieve political gains, the Chairman urged the body to remain steadfast in its support rather than joining groups that worked to destroy the PDP.

He said the Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, had done a lot in Oshimili South Local Government Area to deserve total support of the people and implored members of OSPF to mobilise support for the Governor and the party at all times.

The chairman noted that members of the group were made up of politicians of integrity, stressing that he was confident that they would always support the party to achieve results.

Earlier, the Chairman of the group, Honourable Izuka Okolo, while hinting that the first tenure of Ogbuehsi Okonji was successful as he carried everybody along, said they were happy with his achievements and how he had led the PDP, hence the decision to honour him.

Izuka Okolo expressed the desire of the group to work with him to achieve a stronger PDP in Oshimili South.

Also speaking, a grassroots politician, Mr. Tony Enebeli, said they appreciated Dada Okonji because he was always accessible, adding that the body wanted to maintain a cordial relationship with him and the party.

The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of the award to Ogbueshi Okonji.
