Former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori, has been appointed Patron of Former Governors Forum.

According to a letter signed by the Chairman of the group and former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, and the Executive Secretary, Professor Tunde Esan, the appointment took effect from July 13, 2020.

The letter stated that the appointment was in line with the provisions of the Forum and the unanimous decision of the Executive Committee of the Forum, adding that the body recognised Ibori’s role not only as a former Governor, but as a respected elder statesman with passion for the promotion of unity in Nigeria, which is the major objective of the Forum.

It noted that Ibori’s role as Patron would be invaluable in the development of good leadership qualities among emerging leaders in Nigeria.

Ibori was Governor of Delta state from 1999 to 2007, and still remains a force to reckon with in the Niger Delta and indeed Nigeria in general on account of his political networks.
