The President General of the Ibusa Central Youth Council, Comrade Ifeanyi Asiodu, on Saturday mobilized youths of the community to clean up the popular Ashia Eke, using the state monthly sanitation exercise as a platform.
Comrade Asiodu said the measure was to ensure a clean and healthy environment for trading at the market, in line with the Cleaner Delta vision of the state government.
He said because of the Importance attached to the exercise, the Youth Council hired laboured to join in the clean up, as well as tippers to evacuate the resultant waste.
The PG frowned at the filthy and unkept nature of the front of the market, which he blamed on trading at unauthorized places, and declared that the youth body would take urgent steps to restrict trading to the inside of the market.
Comrade Asiodu urged the traders shading their wares on the road to desist and move into the market as anyone found doing so would henceforth face the wrath of the law.
The youth leader added that the traders would be provided with waste bins to stop them from throwing waste indiscriminately, admitting that huge waste were generated in the market and needed to be properly disposed of.
He stated that the clean up exercise would be sustained and extended to other parts of the community, adding that the youth body under his watch would want to set a standard of cleanliness in Ibusa.
The PG called on youths of Ibusa to key into the new transformation order being championed by the Youth Council, stressing that Ibusa youths of today should consider themselves as agents of change and not spectators.
