He said the state government was partnering with the Federal Mortgage Bank to develop 100 housing units, pointing out that the details were being worked out to ensure a seamless transaction, while another 1000 housing units had been planned for Ugbolu, in Oshimili north and would soon take off.

The Housing Commissioner stated that government was determined to provide affordable houses, especially for civil servants, but was constrained by limited resources, promising that government would continue to provide the enabling environment for the private sector to invest in housing development in order to make the houses affordable to the people.

Chief Ochonogor said his visit to Okwe was to monitor the progress of renovation work going on at the Government Housing Estate in the community which had been in bad shape due to age, stressing that while efforts were being made to build more estates, the existing ones would continue to be given facelift.

He explained that the estate was important to government because it provided accommodation for Heads of Federal Agencies, High Count Judges and top government officials.

The Commissioner said contract for the renovation was awarded in June this year and was expected to be completed in August, and commended the contractor for the level of work done, while urging the firm to ensure quality delivery.

Chief Ochonogor spoke on some other housing projects being handled by the state government, including the Mega Secretariat Complex, SSG and Chief of Staff Office Complexes and Residential Quarters, as well as the Junior Staff Quarters expansion, saying that the projects were progressing as planned.
