The Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Asaba, Dr. Victor Osiatuma, has said there is no COVID – 19 scare in the hospital.

Osiatuma, who spoke with our reporter in Asaba on Saturday,.said the health facility was attending to patients as was the situation before the outbreak of the COVID – 19 pandemic.

He said the only difference was that the health personnel in the hospital were now threading with caution to avoid being exposed to the virus, while the number of patients admitted to the wards had been reduced in line with the social distancing rule.

The CMD stated that the COVID – 19 Treatment Centre located at the hospital was being manned by experts, pointing out that samples of suspected cases were collected every morning for testing at the appropriate testing centres.

Osiatuma revealed that confirmed cases were usually admitted and treated at the hospital’s treatment centre or sent to other treatment centres whenever the centre was fully booked.

He confirmed that the FMC Isolation/Treatment Centre was presently fully booked and could only admit new patients after discharging those deemed fit to go home after repeatedly testing negative.

The CMD used the opportunity to state that ” COVID – 19 is real ” and advised those sceptical about it to have a rethink and play safe by abiding by the stipulated precautionary measures.

Our reporter was at the Centre for Communicable Diseases and Research of the hospital where it was confirmed that the ten wards at the treatment centre all had patients in them, while the health personnel at the centre were busy working.
