The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State, Pastor Ize – Iyamu, has been dragged to court by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission(EFCC).
Ize-Iyamu is standing trial over an eight-count charge of money laundering involving the sum of N700million said to have been used to prosecute the 2015 general election.
The 57 year old, who was then the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, is to be tried along with four others at the Federal High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State.
The EFCC, in the suit marked FHC/BE21C/2016, said Ize-Iyamu and four others allegedly collected the public funds for the polls, contrary to the provisions of the EFCC Act and the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act.
Ize-Iyamu recently emerged winner of the APC governorship primary in Edo state after he defected from PDP to APC.
