The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has declared that no state in the country is COVID-19 free.
The Director-General of the Centre, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, announced this on Monday while speaking at the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.
Ihekweazu noted that a state could only talk about being Coronavirus free, when it is testing adequately, insisting that nostate in Nigeria is COVID-19 free and no country in the world is COVID-19 free.
He added that we could only talk about a state being disease free with an effective tool to fight the disease and that would be when a vaccine has been developed.
Until then, the DG said, there would be no easy way to go than to keep pushing for the preventive measures and develop the capacity of the nation’s laboratories to test.
Cross River is the only state in Nigeria, where any case of COVID-19 has not been officially confirmed in the country.
There are currently 20,244 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria.
Lagos has the highest number with 8,576, (FCT) 1,567 and Kano 1,190 cases
