DELTA NOA EMBARKS ON COMMUNITY BASED COVID – 19 AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

The National Orientation Agency, NOA, in Delta state has taken its Community Based and Grassroots COVID-19 Sensitization Programme to Umunede and Akumazi communities, in Ika north east local government area. 

At the palaces of the Obi of Umunede, Agadagidi Ezeagwuna Ezenweali and his Akumazi counterpart, Henry Jegbefume the first, the Acting State Director of NOA, Mr. Chris Anyabuine, said the Agency had continued to sustain its COVID 19 sensitization engagements at the state and community levels.


Mr Anyabuine said one sure way to check community spread of COVID – 19 was for the people to embrace behavioral and attitudinal change in line with NCDC hygiene and safety protocols.


He stated that locals should make regular hand washing, wearing of face masks, social and physical distancing in public places ways of life, adding that people who presented with the COVID 19 symptoms should seek urgent medical attention.


The NOA Acting State Director said the traditional rulers had a major role to play in curbing community transmission of the COVID – 19 pandemic in their domains, stressing that they should mobilize their communities to obey all precautionary measures put in place by the relevant authorities to protect their people from contracting the deadly virus.


While describing the increasing rate of new infections in the state as worrisome, Mr Anyabuine said measures must be put in place to ensure that hygiene facilities were in markets and schools when eventually re – opened to curb community transmission of the virus.


Responding, the Obi of Umunede Agadagidi Ezeagwuna Ezenweali, who spoke through the President General of Umunede Progressive Union, Mr Ngozi Tony, thanked  NOA for sensitization campaign and commended the state government for its efforts at winning the fight against the Covid 19 pandemic in the state.


Similarly, the Obi of Akumazi, Henry Jegbefume the first, who was represented by Chief Eric Akabudike , also commended NOA for the sensitization campaign and called on government to explore home grown traditional medicine in the fight against the virus.
