Youths of Delta State have been challenged to galvanize their strength and energy towards making the society better.
An Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Youth Development, Honourable Innocent Esewezie, gave the charge at the 2020 Ibusa Youth Council Central Executive election which took place on Saturday at the Esemeze Primary School ground Ibusa in Oshimili north local government area.
Honourable Esewezie, who also chaired the 10 man electoral committee that conducted the election, said it was high time the youth took their destiny into their own hands by fixing themselves up in leadership positions, particularly at the community level, to be able to contribute to the decision making process and ensure equity, fairness and justice in the local politics.
He urged Ibusa youths to remain law abiding and shun social vices that could bring them into confrontation with law enforcement agencies, stressing that the government had put in place various programmes to meaningfully engage and prepare them for the challenges of life.
The EA advised the new Ibusa Youth Council Central Executive members to carry the entire Ibusa community along, insisting that they must not work in isolation of the traditional institution, the political class, the security architecture and other critical stakeholders in the administration of the community.
Honourable Esewezie assured the new executive of the support of the Ibusa community and the state government, so long as it remained peaceful and orderly in the conduct of its affairs.
The new Ibusa Youth Council Central Executive has Comrade Ifeanyi Asiodu as President, Austin Elikwu Vice – President, Vincent Olimmah Secretary and Nwanze Okolichi Provost.
Others returned unopposed are: Nonso Okonji – Assistant Secretary, Ifechukwude Nnaife – Treasurer, Moses Oregbu – Financial Secretary, Ekene Okonta – Mobilization Officer and Christopher Ogbulu – Social Secretary.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected President of the Ibusa Youth Council Central Executive, Comrade Ifeanyi Asiodu, thanked all the candidates and delegates for their orderly conduct during the electoral process and urged them to join hands with the new exco to move the youth body forward.
Comrade Asiodu particularly appreciated the electoral committee headed by Honourable Innocent Esewezie for conducting a free, fair and transparent election and thanked all sons and daughters of Ibusa who contributed individually and collectively to the success of the election.
200 delegates from the ten quarters in Ibusa took part in the election which was monitored by representatives of the Ibusa Community Development Union (ICDU), the Palace, Delta State Ministry of Youth Affairs, officials of the Delta State Youth Council, led by Comrade Kenneth Okorie, the Police, DSS, Anti – Cult Volunteer Corps, Ibusa Community Vigilante, Man ‘O War, among others.
Other members of the electoral committee are Sir Alfred Isoh – Secretary, Honourable Uche Esenwa, Barrister Stellamaris Emejulu, Honourable Leo Nkeaka, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwaezigwe, Mr. Oge Okonkwo, Comrade George Nkenchor, Mr. Okpala Okwuisi, Mr. Okey Nwanze and Austin Ajufo.
The new executive is to be inaugurated at a later date.
