Delta State Government has concluded plans to commence community nursing and midwifery training programme aimed at meeting the yawning basic health care needs of rural and hard – to – reach communities in the state.

According to the Delta State Ministry of Health, application form for entry into the Community Nursing and Midwifery Programme is free.

All interested candidates are to submit their names to their communities and local government councils for onward transmission to the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry has advised any candidate who has paid money for forms to go back to whoever such money was paid to and ask for immediate refund.

The programme is an initiative of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to improve the availability of needed skilled manpower at the primary health level and thereby reduce maternal and child mortality, particularly in the rural communities.

The Programme is designed to produce a competent cadre of nursing and midwifery practitioners who would at the completion of their training be resident within the communities that nominated them, to provide basic health care services at the grassroots.
