The Executive Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board, Honourable Emmanuel Chinye, has commended the Private Sector Participants PSPs for their contributions towards effective waste management in the state.

Honourable Chinye gave the commendation in Asaba during a fumigation exercise carried out in three fruit stands in Asaba by the PSPs as part of activities to commemorate this year’s World Environment Day.

He said the role of the PSPs had brought considerable relief to the state government and residents in the area of waste disposal, insisting that their participation had helped to achieve a cleaner Delta.

The Board chairman said the fumigation of the fruit stands was a bold step towards curbing the spread of diseases, particularly COVID – 19 and encouraged the Waste Managers to remain committed to arresting indiscriminate dumping of refuse by ensuring that clients in their zones were registered for home collection of their waste.

He described the World Environment Day celebration, with the theme: ” Time for Nature ” as apt, noting that it provided a veritable platform for a proper appraisal of environmental issues and how to tackle them.

The chairman of the Private Sector Participants, Pastor Maxwell Egbe, said the exercise was the group’s own way of assisting the government in the fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Pastor Egbe called on residents of the state to always keep their environment clean and abide by the precautionary measures to curb further spread of COVID-19 in the state.

He appealed to the state government to be more serious with the enforcement of environmental laws.
