Delta State Government, on April 1, 2020, announced a lockdown in the state to prevent the spread of the coronavirus to the state.
The lockdown was for two weeks within which the state’s index case was recorded on April 7.
This prompted the state government to review the stay at home order to include a curfew from 7pm to 6am.
The curfew had been in place until recently when the federal government relaxed its, which was from 8pm to 7am to now run from 10pm to 4am across the country.
The people of Delta had since then keyed into the federal government’s curfew window, until Friday when the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr Chiedu Ebie and Information Commissioner, Mr Charles Aniagwu, confirmed that the 7pm to 6am curfew in Delta had not been reviewed.

However, human and vehicular movements beyond 7pm across the state still suggest that the government and citizens are not on the same page on the matter.

Our reporter, who monitored the situation in Asaba on Saturday night, observed that there was no enforcement of the 7pm to 6am order as people went about their normal activities and night life.

This is worrisome given the number of new cases of COVID – 19 being recorded in Delta state of late.

Government should, therefore, do the needful to enforce the curfew if its position on the matter still stands.
